The Sawyer Extractor Pump Kit extracts venom and poisons from the bites and stings of snakes, bees, wasps, mosquitoes, and more. The extractor's double chamber vacuum pump action is designed to provide powerful suction for the extraction of venoms and poisons without the need for scalpel blades or knives used in other kits. Because it's a pump, not a syringe, it's easy to use with one hand. When using, select one of the 4 plastic cups that will best cover the bitten area and attach it to the pump, then using your thumb simply push the plunger and the extractor pump will quickly and effectively remove venoms and poisons from beneath your skin. You can safely reuse the pump many times over by cleaning the cups after each use. The Sawyer Extractor is most effective at retrieving venom outside of the muscle areas of the body. Retrieving venom quickly can significantly improve treatment results by medical practitioners. Note that in muscle areas such as the calf muscle, venom quickly enters the circulatory system and an extractor pump is less effective. Question: For rattlesnakes, is this ACTUALLY as effective as cutting with a knife? I mean if my life depends on it, I don't want a gimick and do whats nessesary
Answer: I've been bitten by a copperhead and didn't have my kit with me. I was in a remote area, several hours from a hospital. I would definitely used the Extractor if I would have had it with me. Don't cut yourself or you'll probably wind up with a much more serious problem. The truth is, you may not even have much of a reaction with a pit viper bite (copperheads, rattlers and moccasins) Chances are their venom will be depleted, or they may just not release much or any venom into the wound. After my bite, my ankle swelled up around the bite and turned black, but I didn't have any further reactions. Either way, it's really scary to get bitten and I will definitely use the Extractor immediately if it happens again. I use it with stings all the time and it works great. -
Question: Would this pull a bee stinger out or should a person try to remove the stinger first?
Answer: Actually, the best thing to do is to keep the stinger in and the vacuum will suck the venom out through the stinger. The device itself will not pull the stinger out. Then remove the stinger with tweezers. I have done this numerous times and it has kept my reaction to the toxin to a bare minimum. You can actually see the venom come back out of the stinger. The most important thing is to use the device within the first five minutes of being bitten or stung. I keep mine in my car so that I always have it on hand. We use them on centipede bites often and they save you from going through the agony of that painful venom! -
Question: Will this work good for Black Widow bites to? We have 6 black widows all over the house.
Answer: Logic tells me if i know i have six black widows and i know where they are i should do a preemptive strike before there is a problem. I have never heard of a benificial black widow spider. -
Question: Does this work on on scorpion and snake bites?
Answer: The suction is pretty powerful. It is better on snake bites than the old designs. It works great on bee and wasp stings and should work on scorpion stings also. -
Question: Is it reuseable?
Answer: Yes, the extractor itself is reusable. We use it repeatedly in our office, for scar treatment, not snake bites! And it is easy to clean. -

Answer: On the one that I just received today, on a syrange, it clearly says "Made in China". -
Question: How do you clean this to reuse?
Answer: It's plastic so however you would clean those products. I use alcohol. I use on closed/clean skin, no open wounds - for scar reduction. -
Question: how effective would this product be on a mosquito bite that is a couple days old at least and located pretty much in the center of the chest?
Answer: I would think not very. Esp at a few days old. Sounds like something else might be going on and you should see a dr. That said, I carried one of these in the 80s ans early 90s in the military and have used them on fresh bites and it works really well. The bites were followed up by seeing a dr. -
Question: Will this work for dogs that have been bitten?
Answer: With my continued trauma medical education it has come to my attention these devices are not recommended for use for snake bite at all. In fact there is a considerable amount of evidence that suggest this device may cause mare harm than good both by causing possible tissue damage and decreasing the sense of urgency for immediate medical care. As a dog owner i would not trust this device on my dog -
Question: can the extractor be used on scar tissue?
Answer: There are no limitations on the Extractor as to what kind of skin it can be used on, at least none stated by the manufacturer. The Extractor is essentially a suction cup which fits over a a small area.
