Product Details
- EASY TO USE: Tung Oil is a natural oil recognized by craftsmen to offer the best hand-rubbed finish for all fine woods; simply wipe off and allow the oil to cure at room temperature
- Permeates: Unlike other finishes that form a film on the surface of the wood, tung oil penetrates deep into the wood fibers, cures to a flexible, non-oily solid, and becomes part of the wood itself .
- Protects: Resistant to moisture, alcohol, oil and daily wear for long-lasting beauty and protection; lasts many times longer than mineral oil and wax based products
- Multiple Use: Amazing results on almost any surface that allows oil to penetrate: new unfinished wood, weathered wood, stripped wood, concrete floors and countertops, even brick, stone, and cast iron.
- Ideal for Food Contact Surfaces – Since tung oil is considered non-toxic when dry, it's ideal for cutting boards, butcher blocks, countertops, wooden bowls, wooden utensils and more
- 100% PURE Tung Oil - Hope's Tung Oil is the "best of the best" grades of pure Tung Oil. We only use premium oil, pressed from the best Tung nut crops from growers around the world.

Customer Questions & Answers
-
Question: How many coats would you recommend to apply on butcher-block kitchen countertop to be waterproofed?
Answer: That is hard to answer as the porosity of the wood would be the major factor. Putting a coat on allowing it to penetrate would then tell if more coats were needed. If I were doing a butcher block counter top with food preparation involved I would choose butcher block oil instead it is food grade material. -
Question: Can this be used for a wood garden planter?
Answer: Yes, we have been using this on our wood garden planters for 10 years, that is why we specifically bought it, just for that purpose, it is non toxic and it really is absorbed by the wood and keeps the water out. If you have pets and they tend to lick things , it will not hurt them. I put it on with a paint brush and it goes on easily. This is great stuff, would highly recommend it. Leah -
Question: should I tint the Tung oil on the first coat or the last?
Answer: I really don't understand your question. What are you using to tint the oil? If it dissolves in the oil, I guess it'll work, but if you're talking about a stain, by all means apply it before the oil. Once you've applied the oil the stain won't penetrate the wood. If it does, it probably won't do so evenly. Tint or stain the wood and allow it to thoroughly dry before you apply the oil. The thing is, the oil isn't like paint. It doesn't provide an impervious surface until you've applied several coats and they've thoroughly dried. The number needed depends upon the porosity of the wood. Black Walnut or Mahogany, for example, need more coats than maple. -
Question: Can you brush this on the wood?
Answer: We brushed this on the wood of our newly made raised garden beds. It took a few days to dry outside but we have been pleased with the results. -
Question: can i use this on wood floors and how?
Answer: I have used on wood flooring but I would recommend top coating (at least two coats) it with quality polyurethane finish mainly for the durability and hardness factor. This tung oil product is stellar in my experience thus far with my applications. -
Question: Is this a Gallon? your add shows the pint container? can you please verify that it is a gallon.
Answer: Yes, this is a gallon. -
Question: How is this different from tung oil finish / varnish? like old masters or formby brands.
Answer: The brands you mentioned are “blends”, and are not 100% Tung Oil. They cause the finish to have a more shiny appearance. I do not know what the ratio of Tung Oil in those products are. I prefer the 100% variety. -
Question: Is this available in larger quanities?
Answer: I have no idea. However, the quantity as shown goes a long way. -
Question: Do you apply it straight or use a thinner?
Answer: Both ways. In warm weather I use it straight, in cold weather my daughter uses it with a product called "orange thinner" . We only use one application in our product but a second coat, especially when using the thinner would probably be helpful. -
Question: Whats the thining recommendation for hard wood floors
Answer: I don't know. I use it for primitive benches and such.
