Customer Questions & Answers
-
Question: Is the 6.5x11 busy or flat? Looking for one to lay on for back pain
Answer: They're all flat and most people can lay on them just fine - if too cold, just take a hand towel, run it in hot water, and then put it over the pack before laying on it - allows you to "ease" into the cold. Also, try strengthening your multifidus muscles for your back pain - see Jim Johnson's stenosis book. -
Question: What is the shelf life of an ice packs packs used by/in physical therapy?
Answer: I've had these large, medium & cervical cold packs since 2013. Kept in the freezer & use frequently for multiple shoulder, lumbar & neck pain & subsequent surgeries. They are all currently like new 6/19. They have kept me out of the ER for break through pain issues many times. My PTs all endorse & recommend these. Obviously, I do too! -
Question: Can this be microwaved and also used for heat pain relief
Answer: No, it is used as a cold pack (filled with jell) only. -
Question: Directions say don't lay on it, but I'm uncomfortable lying on my stomach (lower back issues). Has anyone had problems lying on it on a bed?
Answer: My PT suggested this and wants me to lay on it 30 min on then 30 off and so on. I lay on 3 XL ones during PT every time I go for 30 min at a time. Was specifically told to "lay on it". I just make sure to put something between it and myself and no big deal. Yes they do get very cold and stay cold so I would suggest no more than 30 min at any one time and make sure you have a barrier between it and your skin. I even wear a t-shirt with a tank top underneath so I have another 2 extra layers of protection when I use it on my back post back surgery. -
Question: Gel inside is not flexible, uneven and hard. Does this get better?
Answer: I called Colpac and asked them this question because mine got stiff. I was told once you put in in the freezer it has to stay there. If you take it out after you’ve been freezing it for a while, the clay mixture inside will get somewhat hard and stiff. That’s what mine did after I had removed it from the freezer for several Months. -
Question: is it flexible when frozen?
Answer: IT'S AMAZINGLY FLEXIBLE AND SOFT TO THE TOUCH. I KEEP MINE IN THE FREEZER 24/7. I LAY THEM OUT FLAT BEFORE FREEZING EACH TIME I CHANGE THEM OUT TO KEEP THEM NICE AND SMOOTH. I HAVE THE TOP SHELF OF MY FREEZER DEVOTED TO MY COLPAC'S. -
Question: which size is good for icing knees?
Answer: I use the small 6.5 x 11 for the top of the knee. If I need surrounding coverage I use the 10 x 13.5. This of course depends on the circumference of the knee. I have five all different sizes and I love them. -
Question: Is there a specific colpac that is made especially for your knees?
Answer: I used the largest one after knee replacement surgery. It was able to wrap around my entire knee. -
Question: Are these supposed to be moist upon arrival? Mine was moist on the outside and the direction paper was very damp. Is this one leaking?
Answer: No. Mine was not moist at all nor was the direction paper damp. -
Question: Besides the difference in color, how does the black polyurethane compare with the blue vinyl? Does one have an advantage over the other?
Answer: I asked my physical therapist about the color issue and was told that for some reason the black seems to last longer and be stronger! So, I purchased black!
