    Customer Questions & Answers

    • Question: Why is this $11.49 when a box at the store costs ~$3.99?

      Answer: Order from Walmart.com , it's $3.97/box.
    • Question: does it kill ants>

Answer: Borax will also kill ants and roaches. You mix it with equal parts of sugar, and leave water nearby. The combination of borax and water makes bubbles in their stomachs. Plus they bring it back to their nests. For roaches, since they cannot burp, their stomachs literally explode. Boric acid works too, but differently. It gets better their bodies and shells and itches then to death.
    • Question: Can this be used in high efficiency washing machines?

Answer: It comes in a powder, so if you have one of those washers where you can only put liquid detergent in it, to be funneled in via a tube to be squirted into your wash, you would not put it in there, as it could clump and clog the line. I just lightly sprinkle it on the clothes, themselves, directly, so I'd imagine you could do the same kind of thing in any washer.
    • Question: mold

Answer: One cup borax + one gallon water : inhibits mold. http://www.dbw.ca.gov/PDF/CleanGreen/fs-cleaning.pdf
    • Question: Is borax an effective washing machine cleaner?

Answer: Unfortunately I used it for cockroach killer mixed 50% borax with 50% powdered sugar put into a picnic clear ketchup/mustard bottle and shaken together.. It worked great for that.. AS for cleanign a washer I have a front loader and I use a cup of lemon juice on a hot cycle to clean up stains and another run wtih one cup vinegar if there is an odor problem. I do know that if clothes have picked up the odor froma washer, washing the load with one cup of borax gets rid of the odor.. Hope this help
    • Question: What is borax ? Is it a chemical, an element, a brand of cleaner? Is it TSP?

Answer: It is not a chemical, it is all natural since 1891, it is a detergent booster. Also used diluted for toilet Bowls, delicates, carpets & rugs, dishwashing and more. A 4lb box will last a very long time, and best of all it works. Thanks for asking!
    • Question: Is this food grade i hear about or is that different?

Answer: Yes. It's a natural mineral and in a very small amount 1/8 to 1/4 tsp can help remove heavy metals from the body. I take it everyday.
    • Question: Is this pure borax? I want to make slime with my kids and I need water, white glue, and Borax

Answer: There is Borax which I use to make laundry detergent or some people use to enhance their laundry. And then their is Boric Acid. I bought Boric Acid to make something to kill ants. I don't think I would use the boric acid with your kids. Personally...if you have a walmart near you...I would check there first. It might be $4 or so. I would say that it is pure Borax...but I never made slime.
    • Question: I have hard water. Will this be a good item for me? Should I use it as a detergent or as a booster? I currently use the cheapo store brand detergent.

Answer: Definitely not to be used in replacement for a detergent. I have really hard water too (Florida) and use it as a booster. It says it does act as a water softener. I also use a fabric softener (liquid) and notice a difference. For the price, I say try it out & see. Worst case if you don't notice a difference, you haven't lost much money. And it can also be used as a household cleaner if you don't notice a difference. The box has a ton of instructions for use on it. Hope that helps!
    • Question: This can be used to kill ants, right?

Answer: Excellent for carpenter ants. Mix 50/50 with honey or syrup. Find where the ants are feeding - put some there - in a plastic lid, smeared on a rock or on siding. Ants are most active after dark and generally go outside to feed. Easiest to locate where they're exiting the structure with a flashlight just after dusk. In two or three days there should be only a few stragglers remaining - the foragers carry the poisoned sweet back to feed the colony.

    great product, RIDICULOUS price increases!
i have used this product for the last several years to make natural, homemade laundry detergent. it works great and i love that i also don't buy any bulky plastic packaging that hurts the environment. but it has more than DOUBLED in price since the last time i purchased it only six months ago. i am trying to figure out if i just purchased my last box and i am going to search alternatives to this item for my future natural, homemade laundry detergent. such a shame....
