The non-greasy, odorless Ultra 30 Insect Repellent Lotion from Sawyer combines 30 percent DEET with a comfortable liposome base for up to 11 hours of protection against mosquitoes, ticks, flies, chiggers, fleas, and no-see-ums. It's comfortable for use in the backcountry or in the backyard. Similar to the earlier generation of polymer-based controlled release systems, the Liposome envelops the active ingredient, DEET, and slowly time-releases it as needed, thereby extending the effectiveness of the repellent. Unlike polymers, however, liposomes are a natural compound more often used in cosmetics, which allows this formula to be comfortable to the skin, easier to wear, and practically odorless. Sawyer Ultra 30 is also non-staining, compatible with sunscreens, and sweat proof. It's available in an airline-friendly 3-ounce bottle, as well as a 4-ounce bottle. Question: Is this effective on ticks?
Answer: Yes, I have used this in conjunction with treating my son's and my own clothing with permitherin as a tick prevention regiment. Have made it through many weekend camping trips and week long scout camp without a tick when others have had them. -
Question: Can it be applied on your face?
Answer: Yes, full directions are on the bottle, but it does say it can be put on the face like other lotion, just thinly applied. -
Question: How does this work in combination with sunscreen? Am planning a trip to the Galapogus Islands and my nephew burns easily and will need to apply lots

Question: How does this compare to 3M Ultrathon Insect Repellent?
Answer: I'm sorry but we've never carried the 3M Ultrathon. I've heard of it, but not used it. Essentially, the only thing that needs to be compared is the active ingredient list. The Ultra 30 is 30% Deet (the only active ingredient) and 3M appears to be listing its Deet at 19%, but states it's in a time release formula. Two other companies list it at 24% and 34%, so I don't know quite what to make of that. Without having the product here to compare I am reluctant to make any definitive statements for it. Question: Is it really odorless and is it oily?
Answer: It really is odorless and it is not oily, it's creamy. You feel like you're putting on a lotion. Seems to work pretty well but I like the spray because you can use it on clothes too, although the cream is nice to put on arms and other dry areas. Bottom line, I like Sawyer repellent products because they work better than most others. -
Question: Sense it's sweat resistant is it water resistant?
Answer: It is sweat resistant to a degree. It does stay on better than the the spray products. You would need to reapply after swimming. It's a good product. -
Question: How do you use it in the garden?
Answer: Used for a tick / mosquito repellent. Spray on socks, lower pant leg, around wrists on shirts and any bare skin you do not want a mosquito bite on. I suppose you could use this product while working in the garden or walking to and from the garden or in any other place that ticks or mosquitos are like to be present. -
Question: Is it necessary to lather over every inch of the body or just exposed areas???
Answer: Just on the exposed areas. For maximum protection, we would recommend using a topical insect repellent like this on your exposed skin and treat your clothing and gear with our long lasting Permethrin insect repellent for clothing and gear. -
Question: Is this truly unscented? thanks, all.
Answer: It has been a while since I used it but as I remember it did not have any strong scent of any at all. I used it for years before I found something deet free that worked as well. (Cactus Juice sun & sand. Repels sand fleas & mosquitoes but has a light citrus scent. )
