    Product Details

    • EASY TO USE: Tung Oil is a natural oil recognized by craftsmen to offer the best hand-rubbed finish for all fine woods; simply wipe off and allow the oil to cure at room temperature
    • Permeates: Unlike other finishes that form a film on the surface of the wood, tung oil penetrates deep into the wood fibers, cures to a flexible, non-oily solid, and becomes part of the wood itself .
    • Protects: Resistant to moisture, alcohol, oil and daily wear for long-lasting beauty and protection; lasts many times longer than mineral oil and wax based products
    • Multiple Use: Amazing results on almost any surface that allows oil to penetrate: new unfinished wood, weathered wood, stripped wood, concrete floors and countertops, even brick, stone, and cast iron.
    • Ideal for Food Contact Surfaces – Since tung oil is considered non-toxic when dry, it's ideal for cutting boards, butcher blocks, countertops, wooden bowls, wooden utensils and more
    • 100% PURE Tung Oil - Hope's Tung Oil is the "best of the best" grades of pure Tung Oil. We only use premium oil, pressed from the best Tung nut crops from growers around the world.

    Customer Questions & Answers

    • Question: ok for outdoor furniture?

Answer: I suppose so... I put mine on indoor furniture....but It dries beautifully and leaves a hard coating. The best wood for Hope is, of course, teak or a very hard wood. My wood was so dry I wound up putting on several coats....it kept soaking in and disappearing. The bench I covered was a very old Thai teak log of some kind.
    • Question: Can this product be used to seal stone?

Answer: Most stone's porosity is exceedingly low, so you're looking at only a surface coat with tung oil. Hope this isn't a fireplace, hearth, or firepit. What might work better is a (shudder) tung oil finish, which contains a littlevtung oil and a bunch of polymers. Might give you better UV protection so you wouldn't have to re-emulsify more as often (yes tung oil finish re-emulsifies; I've experimented with it, but not on stone). Try the internet, filters "tung oil and stone", and see what you get. Remember that just about anything you use will be flammable.
    • Question: Can this be used on outdoor wicker furniture?

Answer: Hope's Tung Oil may be suitable for use on wicker furniture but we don't have first hand experience with it. I would recommend seeking additional information from a wicker furniture maker/expert and, if it makes sense, trying it on a small spot to see if you get the results you expect.
    • Question: Do you have to dilute it? I'm planning on using it on teak. The salesperson said to dilute it because teak is so dense.

Answer: The salesman is correct. A 2:1 diluted solution (as recommended on the Hope label) will penetrate further into the wood, giving superior durability and a better looking result. On a dense wood like teak, you may even want to do the first coat at 4:1. Then continue with 2:1 coats until you are happy with the results, buffing with fine steel wool between each coat. More coats equals more work, but is worth doing for items like fine furniture. I put 5 diluted coats on an end table which looks great. But for the pepper mill in the kitchen I put on a single coat, undiluted. It looks good too, but I can easily see the difference if I set it down on the end table.
    • Question: Can tung oil be used on outside bamboo tiki bars

Answer: It should work fine but try it on a small area first.
    • Question: If used on painted furniture will it make the color darker?

Answer: Putting it on a painted surface makes no sense. It will take forever to dry, and unless the color of the paint is very light, like white, the darkening will be minimal. It's really a bad idea.
    • Question: Can tung oil being rubbed on after putting on a wood stain? how about a minwax polycrylic?

Answer: I have applied the Hope's to a stained piece for a specific look. It was cherry and i wanted an immediate aged look. Normally I only use the Hope's straight to bare wood and let the natural action of the finish and wood gain the proper patina. Darker hardwoods turn out very well with a tung oil finish. And Hope's is a good option. Used on cherry, walnut, mahogany, purpleheart and aslo on lighter woods like maple and birch for a durable sealed finish. As far as after applying a polycrylic. I do not recommend at all. That finish will seal the wood rendering the oil to stay on the surface and likely result in an oily sticky mess.
    • Question: Is this safe to use on wooden baby toys?

Answer: Yes I think so as it is approved by USDA as a food prep surface. Assuming wood baby toy is clean.
    • Question: Three coats on a prestained acacia butcher block, any contact with a hard object leaves white streaks. How to fix? Thank you

Answer: I've never encountered that with tung oil. Did the stain also seal the butcher block? If so, you'd be better off with a tung oil FINISH, which is highly polymerized. Tung oil won't soak into sealed wood. Otherwise, if your tung oil is soaking into the butcher block and curing properly, there should be no difficulty.
    • Question: Can anyone recommend a cloth or brush to apply the product to my wood table. Thank you. Or is a sponge best? Looking for some link recommendations

Answer: The first coat was put on with a cloth by a friend who had worked with Tung Oil and wiped down with a cloth. All subsequent coats were applied with a brush and after an hour or so were wiped down with a cloth. I liked this procedure better as it was fast and cleaner on the hands. I used six coats for a table top finish.
