Customer Questions & Answers
-
Question: how many pieces are in the kit
Answer: It has been some time since these were purchased, so the degree of dis-assembly when they arrived is no longer recalled. However, each crutch consists of three easily assembled parts -- no tools required. The middle (bent) section, the top and bottom straight sections. The top section is equipped with the cuff, which is attached with what looks like a 10-24 machine screw and nut. The bottom section has a replaceable crutch tip. The middle section has fine-thread locking rings top and bottom to help stabilize the lengths of adjustment selected by user. -
Question: I am 5'0'' and weight about 123, which one should I buy? Would the medium be too big for me?
Answer: The medium size should be fine because the adjustment range is quite large. -
Question: What is the height adjustment? I am 5ft 200lb
Answer: There are two sets of height adjustments -- one for the lower part, one for the cuff-to-grip distance. Lower range moves the centerline of grip from 27" off the floor to 36". Upper changes top of cuff to centerline of grip distance over a range of about 10" to 13". This is not a flimsy piece of equipment -- it will easily support your weight. -
Question: What is the height between handle and cuff? I just ordered a pair that is 10.5" at it's lowest and that is too long.
Answer: Sorry for the delay in answering, I needed to local item. Mine measures approx. 7 to 7 1/2 between cuff and handle. That is with cuff in position to use. There are buttons to adjust this height. Hope this helps. -
Question: How does weight factor with this type of crutcher?
Answer: The difference between this style and the older "armpit" versions is that the user has the option of distributing much of their weight to the forearm rather than their hands/wrist and " 'pits". So the benefit can only be had if the upper arms and elbow are strong relative to the smaller hand/wrist area -- and that is true for most users, but perhaps not all! -
Question: Are the cuffs front- or side-opening?
Answer: The cuffs are front opening. I also found that the cuffs can be covered with a pair of little boys "no-show" socks (ankle socks, size 6-9), and they are much more comfortable on bare arms. -
Question: What size for a 5'4" 138lb female? M?
Answer: There are 10 adjustment positions on the bottom portion, and 4 on the top for the arm section. If these do not stop down enough, 5-6 more holes could be drilled by anyone with a punch and drill press. The rubber "foot" could be removed temporarily to saw off a portion of the lowermost solid section as well. Between all of those options, I could not imagine these devices being too long. Be careful. You can always cut more OFF. but good luck cutting it back ON. Oh, yeah, sand off the burrs if you have to go to the last resort of sawing. -
Question: How do you adjust the circumference of the cuff. It is too big for my forearms.
Answer: There is no adjustment other than bending it. That works OK up to a point. LUMEX may offer different size cuffs but I'm not sure.
