Customer Questions & Answers
-
Question: Will it cover knicks in the wood, as opposed to just scratches?
Answer: The more you use it, the more permanent it becomes. I apply it and let it soak in overnight on my mahogany kitchen cabinets before wiping off excess. Also works well with a scratch cover pen for deeper scratches. -
Question: How well does the dark wood product cover dark cherry scratches
Answer: It covered my very light scratches good. I had some scratches from my cat that were slightly deeper & it did nothing. I had to buy a wood marker, witch covers up deeper scratches. Then go over it all with the Old English. -
Question: I use it on a front door...is there a better way to apply than a rag and your hand...spray on?
Answer: I had this exact same question! Today while doing my front door, I kept thinking how much easier it would be to apply it as a spray. I might try putting it in a pump spray bottle. -
Question: Does this work on dark bamboo wood (not laminate) floors?
Answer: I have dark bamboo floors and I feel this product does a good job covering the light surface scratches. I apply with a paper towel and wait a minute or so and wipe over with my hard floor cleaner. -
Question: Can I paint clear lacquer over the Old English polish?
Answer: You can,,, the Old English must be totally dry... Then yes,,,you can seal it with Lacquer. -
Question: Does it clean the furniture as well or do I need to use their cleaner first?
Answer: I’ve been using this cleaning oil for years. On hardwood floors, wood cabinets and more. I love it. Anything with wood the oil is perfect. I don’t think you’ll need a cleaner first. Depends on the woodwork I believe. -
Question: I just received and put on scratches on espresso wood table. The finish is now more dull than the rest of the table. Has anyone experienced this?
Answer: This product is strictly for covering minor scratches and nicks on furniture. It may be necessary to repeat the application process several times to fully cover the scratches. Additionally, it is important to check that the scratches have gone through any varnish on the furniture. Old English Scratch Cover must make contact with the wood surface to be effective. It is possible that a wax/dirt build-up has been loosened by Old English Scratch Cover, leaving a cloudy appearance. We recommend you buff the area where product was applied until the cloth appears clean after wiping. Then, apply regular furniture polish, such as Old English Lemon Oil, liberally to clean the dulled area and reapply as usual until the furniture regains it's original luster. -
Question: how awful does this smell?
Answer: It does have a smell, but it's not unpleasant. It works miracles, so for me it's worth it. Also, the smell does not linger on the furniture or flooring. -
Question: If I put this on scratches in my floor, will it come up when I clean the floor?
Answer: Yes, it will, because I used it on a scratched coffee table top and after several cleanings, I mean dusting, it just vanished. -
Question: Does this work on laminate flooring?
Answer: This actually worked well on my laminate. Mine had (intentional) scratches designed into the pattern. I used some cleaning solution that got absorbed into the scratches and turned them white. I used the Old English and the scratches absorbed it so now they are brown again and blend in.
