Product Description The non-greasy, odorless Ultra 30 Insect Repellent Lotion from Sawyer combines 30 percent DEET with a comfortable liposome base for up to 11 hours of protection against mosquitoes, ticks, flies, chiggers, fleas, and no-see-ums. It's comfortable for use in the backcountry or in the backyard. Similar to the earlier generation of polymer-based controlled release systems, the Liposome envelops the active ingredient, DEET, and slowly time-releases it as needed, thereby extending the effectiveness of the repellent. Unlike polymers, however, liposomes are a natural compound more often used in cosmetics, which allows this formula to be comfortable to the skin, easier to wear, and practically odorless. Sawyer Ultra 30 is also non-staining, compatible with sunscreens, and sweat proof. It's available in an airline-friendly 3-ounce bottle, as well as a 4-ounce bottle. Question: Does it work for ticks?
Answer: Yes! We spend a lot of time in tick-rich areas and have had no ticks to remove! It repels them and kills them if they should latch in and get a taste! -
Question: Guidance on applying under or over sunscreen, to maximize efficacy of both?
Answer: It's probably personal preference. I applied insect repellent first, then sunscreen, since I needed to reapply sunscreen every few hours. I suggest you try it both ways--one way might cause more sweating than the other, maybe?? -
Question: Will this be strong enough for wilderness travel?
Answer: Yes it will. Others in my party had several ticks on their person and clothing throughout the day. I had no ticks on me after using this product and I traveled the same path my friends did. -
Question: Feels greasy this lotion?
Answer: Just at the beginning when you first apply it. I really like this product. Besides feeling safe and protected using it, it did not smell and was not greasy. -
Question: Can this repel yellow jackets?
Answer: Was using it for malarial mosquitos. Not sure. -
Question: Question for the seller: Does the lotion contain alcohol?
Answer: Not sure. I have not read the active ingredients for awhile. -
Question: If I put this on and then get a little on yoga pants which are made of acetate, what does it do to the material?
Answer: I don't know about acetate, but it doesn't hurt cotton or cotton blends. I've gotten it on my t-shirts and shorts and it didn't seem to hurt anything. -
Question: Does this help repel for tsetse flies?
Answer: I don't know about tsetse flies but I think Sawyers is the best for everything that flies. I have put it on in the morning and it has last all day. I don't go outside without it. Give it a try. Hope it works for you! -
Question: Why was the twin pack of 4oz each $22.78 and 1 x 4oz bottle $10 x 2 = 20?
Answer: When I see that discrepancy in pricing, I just buy two of the singles rather than twin pack, particularly if the difference is not offset by shipping cost, handling fees, etc. Usually, one gets a discount with a multi-pack but not always. -
Question: What is the expiration on this bottle sold on Amazon, if ordered today?
Answer: I didn't find an expiration date any where on the bottle. Sorry.
