Question: Can they be cut to length?
Answer: You can certainly cut it yourself to any length you desire but you may have to trim the cut end in order to reinstall the rubber top -
Question: Have rheumatoid arthritis in both knees good to keep me balance?
Answer: My cane helps a lot with knee pain if used correcty (opposite side from bad knee). I'm not sure how it would work with pain n both knees. It's OK for balance. For more confident balance control, I use a Bazos Walking Stick (almost will work). I'm able to hold higher up on the stick which gives me more control. Leaning on a cane doesn't give anything to hang on to if I lose my balance. Once you're falling, you will fall. With the walking stick, holding higher, I can quickly lift, move it, and set it in on a new balance spot. My advise is to try them both and see which one works better for you. For balance, at least for me, the waking stick is a much better choice.
