I had these ice bags in the hospital without the ties and they worked so well. They are reusable and I have used some 5+ times before they weaken and leak. I recommend.

When my husband had hip replacement surgery, the hospital gave us a few of these ice pack covers to take home. After using them for a few days, they get worn and dirty where you want to replace them. I found these online and purchased a pack of 25. They are great to have on hand. I purchased 4x10 inch gel ice packs and they fit in these covers perfectly. The closure clip is sturdy and the bag does not leak (the hospital fills the bags with loose ice instead of gel packs). When you first use these, it seems a bit awkward, but after a time or two, you totally get the hang of it. To open it, squeeze the clip on one side, then pull the top piece up. The top piece can sometimes separate from the bottom piece, but you just have to hook it on the opposite end before closing it again.

I get migraines - and what helps the most is ice - packing my head in ice and hiding under my pillows. I used to use the reusable gel packs that you keep in the freezer. They only sort of worked. I don't know what made me think of these - but one day I remembered that I was given one of these to help heal from child birth (they saved my down stairs). I ordered a pack - hoping for a better solution than the gel packs. I LOVE THESE THINGS!!!! I fill up two of them with ice (three if it's a really bad migraine), tie them around my head and go to sleep. They stay cold for a LONG time and for some reason they don't ever get too cold. Once the ice finally melts - I just refill - no need to wait for it to refreeze like with the gel packs. I bought them for migraines, but find I use them in the summer to help with the hot flashes at night, anytime I get hurt - they are readily available. I even take a couple with me when I travel as part of my first aid kit. I think I get about 4-6 uses out of each pack (maybe more), but they are so cheap I don't mind throwing one out when it finally gets a little ratty or starts to leak. This is one of those "Why did it take me so long to discover?' finds. If you have kids, get migraines or hot flashes, are active and prone to banging up yourself you NEED these!

One of these was provided to my wife following a surgical procedure and we found it to work perfectly. Very sturdy. Easy to fill with cubes or crushed ice and the closure continues to work after multiple fill/empty cycles. Outer finish on the bag feels nice against skin and keeps the bag from feeling so cold as found with many plastic containers.

Hospital gave me this after shoulder surgery and I loved how it didn't get me wet, kept cool, easy to re-use, I ended up buying these because of all that. Now I have more than I will ever need, but totally worth it.

My wife was in hospital for 10 days. They used these ice bags to ease her pain. She now uses these at home for headache and backache relief. We cut off the straps because they are not needed for this application. No leakage and easy to use.

I had neck surgery and was given one of these in the recovery room. I bought this pack to have at home so I could have the same brand as what the hospital gave me. I've been using them ever since and probably will never buy a different brand or style. What I like most is the soft and dry outer cover. There is an inside vinyl liner so the outside never gets wet. It's thick enough that if you care to, you could put the outside on the affected area, or cover the area first with a light towel. The hospital put it directly on my neck, so I assumed that was OK in my case. You may have a different experience. I don't know if the manufacturer recommends reusing them, or if they are single use, but I use them for a few days at a time. It did take me a few tries to get the opening and closing of the fastener down. It does take practice and doesn't seem intuitive to me, but eventually I figured out you fold the top of the opening over the fastener, then close shut. Opening the fastener takes practice as well. There are ties on both ends that would allow you to attach to an arm or leg if needed. I did not use that function since I would have had to tie it around my neck. The ties are very sturdy. PROS: Soft; stays dry; can cover a large area; can be attached via sturdy ties on all four ends; versatile - put a lot or a little ice depending on the size of the area. CONS: A little stiff; opening and closing takes a LOT of practice.
