Question: Where can I find a list of ingredients? Does this have boric acid? Is this just glorified washing soda?
Answer: SODA ASH - (SODIUM CARBONATE) also known as washing soda. In domestic use, it's used as a water softener during laundry. SODIUM METASILICATE - A major use is as a builder (a material that enhances or maintains the cleaning efficiency of a surfactant, principally by inactivating water hardness) in soaps and detergents SODIUM CHLORIDE - Sodium chloride, also known as common salt, table salt, or halite. As well as the familiar uses of salt in cooking, salt is used in many applications, from manufacturing pulp and paper to setting dyes in textiles and fabric, to producing soaps and detergents. CITRIC ACID - This is a weak organic acid. It serves as an environmentally benign cleaning agent and acts as an antioxidant. The Detergent is a coconut based (LAURYL) Ethoxylated fatty alcohol. Coconut oil on its own will wash nothing. It is therefore chemically modified so that it becomes surface active and thus performs like a detergent. This commodity is widely used by many detergent manufacturers because it is readily biodegradable, non toxic and mild and efficient. It is also NOT Petroleum based. Google is pretty nifty. -
Question: Does this work in cold water?
Answer: Yes! It works very well in cold water. I have tried it a few times in warm as well, but I wash mainly with cold water. For my whites, I add their booster product and wash my whites in cold. They're the whitest whites I've had in a long time! Honestly, I'm impressed. -
Question: Is the tin suppose to be sealed? I've just received it unseal and can't find the scoop. I'm debating on returning it.
Answer: My tin arrived without a lid and the scoop is not inside it. Just a twist-tie to keep the bag closed. Not as advertised!!! -
Question: can you use this stuff as a laundry detergent or is it for use as a booster?
Answer: I use this (and only this) as my laundry detergent, I add baking soda as a booster. It's GREAT if you have sensitive skin (my grandsons do). It will not foam up like regular detergents do (don't add extra). if your laundry load is less than a full load, cut back on the washing soda. It doesn't leave any residue in your clothes like regular laundry detergent does. Hope this helps. I have been using this and only this for the past 4 years. No complaints!!!!! -
Question: Is this used instead as laundry detergent or as a detergent booster?
Answer: The laundry soda is a laundry detergent. Nellie's does make an oxygen brightener that can be used as a booster. They are both excellent products especially if you have sensitive skin. -
Question: Will this clean a Greasy, Grimy, Diesel Mechanic's clothes?
Answer: Yes yes and yes, I have a greasy grimy mechanic for a husband and I have noticed not only the clothes come out cleaner (i would use a scoop and a half) but so does my washing machine. -
Question: What is the difference between laundry soda and laundry powder?
Answer: Dear Mocha: The laundry "SODA" is used to cleaning clothes, althought its chemichal content differ from detergents. Anyway NELLIES LAUNDRY soda IS A POWDER. -
Question: Does this soap have an expiration?
Answer: No, there is no expiration date as long as the laundry soda is kept in a cool, dry space and the resealable bag is kept closed. -
