Answer: The bottom left heart indicator is for your heartbeat, and the heart indicator on the right glows blue when your arm is at the proper level for the actual blood pressure reading. -

Answer: Yes, you do not need to use a cell phone. It worked fine. However, the Omron upper arm monitor is preferred by a Cardiologist as it is more accurate. -
