    • Question: has anyone compared accuracy to digial thermometers? I get a higher temp on vicks digial

      Answer: In searching the medical literature, it appears as if this type of thermometer (i.e. a "galinstan thermometer" or GT ) is the most accurate. The tradeoff is speed. Digital thermometers (DT) are much faster, and still reasonably accurate whereas the GT takes longer to get a measurement but is considered the most accurate of the alternatives.
    • Question: Is there a trick to shaking it down? Lots of people say they can’t do it and I’m having the same problem.

      Answer: There is a flipper to shake it down in the package. If you use it, you can.
    • Question: Can the Thermometer be used recctally as well?

      Answer: I don't think so the head is small unlike a rectal thermometer that has a large head
    • Question: In the old fashioned the temperature line was silver or red, what color is this line supposed to be?

      Answer: It's similar color as mercury (old-fashioned)
    • Question: What fluid is in this, if not mercury?

      Answer: Alcohol. Usually, when a glass thermometer does not use mercury, it uses alcohol.
    • Question: Does it read the temperature underarm?

      Answer: Yes. It reads temps under the arm but it may take a minute or two longer to register.
    • Question: Where is this made?

      Answer: It is made in Germany. The mercury-free thermometer, Geratherm classic, has been developed by Geratherm Medical AG and contains a patented liquid alloy consisting of gallium, indium and tin-called Galinstan.
    • Question: OMG how do you shake it down nothing works?

      Answer: Hold the top end TIGHTLY (mercury bulb end pointing toward the floor) between your thumb and forefinger. Very, very briskly and with a snap of your wrist thrust your hand downward. Do this about 3-4 times. Be sure not to fling the thermometer across the room! Us baby boomers are experts at this manuver. It works, or have someone over 65 show you.
    • Question: How dangerous is this if it breaks? Best clean up method> Thanks

      Answer: Your worse danger is from the broken glass not the chemicals in the thermometer. So put on Your safety glasses, rubber gloves, steel toe boots, HEPA breathing regulator, and sound canceling ear muffs. Then get a broom and dust pan. The rest of my comment is NSFW.
