Question: Can this be used for cosmetics?
Answer: It is food grade, so the powder is probably safe, however, if you are trying to make something to reduce redness, or inflammation I doubt it would be beneficial. The two active compounds honokiol and magnolol are sparingly soluble in water. They are also not stable in water solution. The cosmetic companies that use magnolia bark extracts use special procedures to enhance solubility and stability. I would not recommend anyone without experience in the pharmaceutical or cosmetics industry to try and formulate something to apply to the skin that would hold those two ingredients in solution. There are just too many ways to go wrong if you are unfamiliar with the ingredients. -
Question: Can anyone describe the taste of this?
Answer: Kind of woody and bitter is the best I could describe it -
Question: What is the purity of the extract?
Answer: It is 2% honokiol. -
Question: Why does the product have a Proposition 65 warning? Due to magnolia or due to dextrin?
Answer: I believe one reason for the warning is due to naturally occurring lead found in some soil. -
Question: Is this safe for artisan soap making?
Answer: Not sure why not, topical benefits include reducing redness, swelling and scar size. You can get topical creams that contain it.
