    Customer Questions & Answers

    • Question: will this work for bed bugs?

Answer: Yep! Since my teenage son's friends brought us bedbugs during a weekend sleepover (apparantly, they crawled out of their backpacks and suitcases), it has been a LIVING NIGHTMARE, trying to live with them while trying to kill them. There were SEVERAL times we thought we'd conquered them, only to discover, THEY'RE BACK like a stalker ex!! We even set off FOUR BUG BOMBS right before we left for a two week vacation that were SPECIFICALLY FOR BEDBUGS, only to return to bed bugs AND FLEAS (if we didn't have cats, I'd have thought the little buggers marched right out of the bombs since we hadn't had ANY ISSUE with fleas BEFORE the bombs), and MORE BEDBUGS than we'd had BEFORE!! LUCKILY, o looked up SEVERAL reviewes for the bombs, and kept hearing about diatomaceous earth, and how it was basically the ONLY solution to really rid your house from bedbugs (even professional exterminators don't work, according to the statistics)! So, RIGHT when I began using diatomaceous earth, I noticed the difference! Nothing is an overnight cure all, but after being munched on by creepy freaking bugs ALL NIGHT, EVERY NIGHT, u REALLY NOTICE ANY relief you get! I had two daughters that had allergic reactions to the actual bedbugs! It was SO BAD, I took them in to the E.R., obviously, not knowing it was a "bedbug rash" (and yep... that's a "thing"), because it looked like they each had a case of the chickenpox, or smallpox! Fortunately, after we started sprinkling diatomaceous earth EVERYWHERE, but mostly all over their beds, around their bedposts, and their pillows (under the bedbug proof mattress covers, and pillow cases), they stopped being eaten alive through the night!
    • Question: This is ok around animals right?

Answer: My vet told me not to apply it on the cats because it gets into their lung through breathing. Diatomaceous Earth is siliceous sedimentary rock reduced to powder, as such is an abrasive, it kill insects that repeatedly walk on it buy sanding and slashing their exoskeletons. So if apply to animals can damage their lungs in the same manner. I used in my garage after Flea treatment, but I vacuumed thoroughly before letting my pets inside the premises. I also use it in flower beds but don't let cat in the area till after the rain disperse the powder.
    • Question: Has anyone use this on their pets for fleas? Thank you.

Answer: Yes, Diatomaceous Earth bag is labeled to kill fleas. Thoroughly treat the floor and bedding in and around pets' sleeping quarters. Treat surrounding cracks and crevices, baseboards, carpeting and wherever fleas are suspected. It is also recommended to treat your pets with a product registered for flea control, such as Flea Spray.
    • Question: What percentage of crystalline silica does this product contain?

Answer: By Kathy Allen I’m going to step out on a limb here and throw some science at this group. I’ve been seeing a lot of confusion about Food Grade DE vs Bug Killing DE vs Swimming pool and industrial cleaners....here’s the truth, easily confirmed with chemistry. Amorphous silica and crystalline silica are chemically different minerals. Amorphous silica is in DE and natural bug killers. Crystalline silica is in pool/ industrial cleaners and can be toxic. It should not be eaten or inhaled. An example is oil....while olive oil and motor oil are in the same family known as oil, one will bathe your skin and joints in beautiful deliciousness, and one will make you sick (unless you are a car) Amorphous silica is safe and healthy to eat, breathe (although any dust can make you cough) roll around in, make a facial, put in the bathtub, brush your teeth with, have a spa day with, rub on your pets and put in smoothies. Crystalline silica can make you sick. Silica is an essential trace mineral no longer found in our diets due to poor soil conditions. Essential by definition means “must be obtained from food” Big Pharma helps perpetuate these myths cuz well...money. DE is cheap, can’t be patented, keeps peeps healthy and strong which cuts into profits. I’ll step off my soapbox now. 🤷🏻‍♀️🔬. I'm a recently retired college prof...my main content area is Human Nutrition and my biggest guilt trip is the dispensing of false/misleading info disguised as science to my students. Big Pharma is in bed with the FDA, USDA, and other government agencies and think tanks. The suppressing of information is real, folks.... Diatomaceous Earth is such an amazing, effective and inexpensive supplement I was literally stunned when I discovered it last year. Companies like Walgreens don't want us using it because the health and beauty benefits are so vast it would put them out of business. I've turned back the clock by a good 20 years using DE both externally and as a dietary supplement. Closest thing to a miracle I've ever seen and costs about 2 bucks a pound.
    • Question: Will it kill our honey bees?

Answer: We use DE on the ground under our hives to kill the hive beetle larva. It's very effective. The bees are not affected by the DE.
    • Question: Does this come with a duster, one customer commented that it does not?!

Answer: The bag that I bought did not have a duster. Where can I buy one?
    • Question: Why does this have a cancer warning if it is ok for ingestion?

Answer: Edited Answer: One reviewer for this product said they consuming this product, but I’ve read that Harris Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth is NOT safe for humans to use or to consume; it is only for use for animals as listed on the product label. Although Diatomaceous earth has been tested as a whole and evaluated as a Group 3 carcinogen by IARC, not all Diatomaceous earth is the same. For example: pool grade Diatomaceous earth is very hazardous, but others can contain very low levels of crystalline silicon dioxide, such as Amorphous diatomaceous earth, which has not been associated with any cancers in people. Hope this helps! 🥰
    • Question: Will this be effective against no see ums (sand flys)?

Answer: i doubt it since the bugs need to walk thru it
    • Question: Do I need to wear a mask when applying?

Answer: You do not want to breath this product in.
    • Question: Will this kill water bugs? I found one today and i screamed and it flew away. I spent the entire day trying to find it.

Answer: DE is used in animal feeds to control bugs and as a topical to kill fleas. It dehydrated the fleas and they die. It can be taken internally to get rid of parasites in animals and people. Sprinkle some on top of food or in juice Use food grade for these applications. I don’t know about water bugs but it would not hurt to sprinkle a good amount in affected area. I have taken it myself and given it to my animals.
