    • Question: What ingredient detoxifies? When comparing both the ACTIVE (Stannous fluoride) and INACTIVE ingredients with other pastes they are the same. Gimmick?

      Answer: The answer is that stannous fluoride is the active ingredient that kills plaque bacteria, including at the gumline. Many, many years ago, in the 1960's, when Crest Fluoride toothpaste came out, it had stannous fluoride (the fluoride salt of Tin, SnFl2), which both prevents cavities by strengthening tooth enamel and having an antibacterial effect on plaque bacteria. After a few years, anticavity toothpastes changed the active ingredient to sodium monofluorophosphate or sodium fluoride. They did that because stannous fluoride could cause brown stains on teeth, typically in between them where food particles were lodged when people didn't floss before brushing (which a lot of people don't). The sodium versions of fluoride salts don't cause such staining, but they provide no antibacterial effect. So now Crest Gum Detoxify -- and certain other brands -- have gone back to stannous fluoride to help prevent and sometimes even reverse gum disease since it kills plaque bacteria. You'll note that other antibacterial toothpastes such as Colgate total have sodium monofluroide phosphate to help prevent cavities, and the bacteriostatic ingredient triclosan (which is found in deodorant soap or used to be) to kill and control the multiplication of plaque bacteria after brushing. So read the ingredients in any toothpaste you buy to see what the active ingredients are -- and if it promises to help kill plaque bacteria to help with gum disease, it will either have stannous fluoride which does both things, or it will have sodium monofluorophosphate plus something extra that kills bacteria such as triclosan. Another brand on the market with stannous fluoride to kill bacteria and prevent cavities is Parodontax.
    • Question: Is this used instead of regular toothpaste or do you alternate?

      Answer: I previously used a sensitive toothpaste but my gums bled terribly. I use this only, now. I no longer have bleeding gums even if I floss!

      Answer: GREED. (it's the same reason you need the toothpaste after scoffing down 16 donuts for breakfast: GREED.)

      Answer: This is not ok. I wouldn't consider myself to have sensitive teeth. With this toothpaste it does cause pain for me.

      Answer: My first experience was with a sample from my dentist. I had been buying crest sensitve toothpaste for years. This product has no bad after taste or any irritation to teeth or gums. I love it.

      Answer: I don't taste any salt at all.

    Cavities are a thing of the past!
    We started using this product when it was touted as one of the best products of the year. Since using it now for several years, no one in my family has had a cavity. Our hygienist has asked us what we are doing and the only change was the introduction of this product into to our daily brushing routine. We use Gum Detoxify at night as part of our brushing before bed. We do use an electric tooth brush as recommended by our dentist. Oral health is very important at any age, but as seniors we are very meticulous about keeping our teeth in good health. I highly recommend this product be part of your brushing routine. We have been pleased with the results. You will too. definitely worth the price.

    Stays on toothbrush nicely
    This is a great toothpaste. Tried sample from dr twist. Stayed on toothbrush & teeth nicely. Smooth & creamy versus gel or older paste that just ends up in your mouth and not on your teeth. Expensive as heck but what isn’t these days.

    This product really works!
    Don't know if it whitens or not, didn't buy it for that reason. I had a tooth that suddenly started hurting any time I bit down on something hard. Never hurt any other time. I could touch, push and pick at it and felt no pain at all. I saw an ad for this toothpaste on television and all of a sudden wondered if maybe it was the gum area hurting and not the tooth. I bought it to try, had only used it 3 times when I thought the pain had already decreased but was afraid it was wishful thinking. By the 5th time I used it I was feeling no pain at all when I bit down on hard things.

    Effective…and Tasty?
    It seems to do the job. The taste is a rather mild, almost vanilla-y mint, and for some reason, it reminds me of marshmallow paste, which I find pleasant.

    Not all up to the hype
    I Purchased this product in hopes that it would be better than other big-name company, toothpaste … BUT it’s just like any other toothpaste that states it’s for whitening. As for restoring or help preventing gum loss, I cannot confirm nor deny it. For the price I won’t be purchasing it again.
