In a large bowl, mix Washing Soda, Borax, and Soap Flakes. 2. Store in closed container. 3. Use 2 Tablespoons to 1/4 cup per load of laundry. *We seal our buckets in the most secure way possible to keep the contents in and any contaminants out. A bucket opener for a food storage or paint bucket may be needed to open these buckets. Question: Is this cruelty free
Answer: Yes, Earthborn Elements Washing Soda is cruelty-free. We are a cruelty-free company. We do not test our products on animals and do not hire another company to do it for us. We are also very discerning when it comes to our suppliers and only source ingredients from other companies that are also cruelty-free. -
Question: Is this for laundry, or do I have to make laundry detergent out of it
Answer: If you add 25% Borax, it makes a good laundry soap. Here is what I do to make 5 gallons liquid laundry soap (which will gel when cooled) Boil a large pot of distilled water. Take 1 bar of Zest (or any brand without a lot of chemicals), and shave it down into fine pieces. (I use a cheese grater). Add the fine pieces of bar soap to the water and melt it. Pour the soap water into the 5 gallon bucket. Add 2-3 cups of Washing Soda. Add 1-2 cup Borax. Add 1-2 cup Baking Soda. Mix well. Add more distilled water to fill bucket. I've been using this home made non-toxic laundry soap for years. -
Question: Says 4lbs also says 2lb. Which is it?
Answer: I didn't see anything saying 4 lbs, I weighed it and its just under 2 lbs (may have used a little) -

Answer: This is 100% pure Sodium Carbonate, also known as Soda Ash. -
Question: What grade is the plastic of the bucket?
Answer: At Earthborn Elements, we use HDPE (High-Density Polyethylene) Buckets which are commonly used for house hold items like milk jugs, laundry detergent bottles, plastic bags and more! HDPE is a very durable plastic designed to withstand high temperatures. Our buckets are BPA-Free and Food Safe. -
Question: I have some rough, scratchy shirts - does this make your clothes softer?
Answer: Washing Soda softens the water you use. It helps to rinse the soap out which can soften the cloth. Try it. I love what it does for my wash! -
Question: has anyone tried using this by itself to replace laundry detergent?
Answer: Yes! In an effort to be frugal and eco friendly I started using straight washing soda over 2 years ago. I'm the kind of person who researches everything to death; read the pros and cons of all different ingredients and homemade recipes and decided just to try straight washing soda. No smelly or dingy clothes, though a good spot remover is still necessary. Mind you I'm only washing adult, sometimes lightly soiled clothing so your mileage may vary. I have a top loader so I start the machine on warm, add the washing soda and let it dissolve a bit, then typically switch to cool and add my laundry. I don't have specific measurements to give since I am using a small scoop from my last and final canister of OxiClean Free (not as green as I thought!). Honestly though I'm probably using too much- and it only takes a couple tablespoons- as I read the agitator does most of the work.
