Question: Why does packaging say in very small print may contain lead?
Answer: Hey Laurie, Prop 65 on the labels is a precautionary measure. As you probably already know, California has the strictest rules when it comes to a variety of different chemicals and heavy metals; one of those being lead. All of our mushroom products meet Prop 65 guidelines for heavy metals, which are the strictest in the world. Their lead limit of 0.5ppm is 25 times lower than the FDA (12.5ppm) limit. The United States Pharmacopoeia has a limit of 10ppm and Health Canada has a ~5ppm limit. It's important to understand that with heavy metals that we are consuming them every day. The food and water we put in our bodies every day will have trace amounts of heavy metals like lead. It's the amount of those metals and the dosage that can be an issue. Lastly, we have rigorous supply chain controls and robust testing programs to ensure the quality and safety of our mushroom extracts. Consistent with prudent industry practices, our production routinely tests for the Prop 65 listed chemicals of concern, including lead, cadmium, arsenic, and mercury. Question: What would be a natural proportion of spores :body - e.g. 1:100?
Answer: Hi AJ, It's greater than 1:1. We have a whole blog post on this from going to the recent International Medicinal Mushroom Conference in Nantong, China. Spore sellers often say it's 1:100 but that's totally false. Spore growers in China can now get more than 1kg of spores per 1kg of mushroom. Hope this helps. Question: The supplement facts shows "ganoderma linghzi"? This is not a standard naming convention (mix of latin and chinese). Typo?
Answer: Hi Keifer, Great question but the answer is a bit confusing. Ganoderma lingzhi is now the official name of Chinese reishi. It use to be known as Ganoderma lucidum but recent research using DNA sequencing has shown that lucidum is actually the European variety. One reference: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/27044336 This becomes confusing because the majority of the Ganoderma research has been done on the Chinese reishi then lucidum now known as lingzhi. The research will still stay lucidum though it now applies to lingzhi, not the European lucidum. Many products using Chinese reishi are still calling their products lucidum but if you send them off for DNA analysis they would come back showing lingzhi. The commerce side of reishi and not caught up to the scientific side yet and many consumers know of lucidum but don't know of lingzhi even though the products are still the same but the naming convention is now different. Nammex, our supplier, labels this product as "Ganoderma lucidum (Ganoderma lingzhi)". We decided to be correct in the current proper species identification of our reishi product which is the true Chinese reishi. Hope this helps.
