Plasticless 100% Compostable Flexible Drinking Straws - A fantastic alternative to plastic straws. They are made of materials such as modified corn starch and PLA. The maximum heat-resisting temperature of this plant-based straw is 165 °F. Composting is the process of breaking down organic waste by microbial digestion to create compost. Our straws meet all the requirements in the European Norm EN 13432 and/or the US Standard ASTM D6400. Both specifications require that biodegradable/compostable products completely decompose in a composting setting in a specific time frame, leaving no harmful residues behind.The proper composting environment is warm, humid, and rich in nutrients and microorganisms, so putting the straw into water or just burying it in the soil cannot quickly complete the entire degradation process. But even in a dry room, they will begin to degrade within 12 months. Please use them as soon as they arrive. |

Question: Has anyone used these to drink a smoothie or shake?
Answer: We use them for homemade smoothies for my kids and they work fine as long as you have a good blender. -
Question: Can i toss these in my personal compost?
Answer: No. The temperature rating on these straws will not allow them to degrade in your compost pile unless it is consistently over 150 degrees F. -
Question: Can these straws be used in hot beverages?
Answer: I find that that parts if the straw will collapse in coffee with milk added. I suspect it would be worse with plain hot coffee. -
Question: Are these industrial compostable only? Meaning they have to have an additive to breakdown. No better than normal plastic if so...
Answer: They list ASTM 6400 and ok compost but I don’t see the ok compost home label - so I would assume if you are composting at home with less heat - the straws may take longer to break down - seems like a good product as far as function, but I have not audited their full life cycle. -
Question: Can they be used in hot coffee or tea drinks without falling apart?
Answer: Not hot coffee or tea. They melted immediately to the point of unusable when put them in my sbux cup. Bummer. Thats why I bought them. -
Question: Is there any way to check if this is truly corn starch based or actually plastic? It feels exactly like plastic so it makes me very skeptical
Answer: I can tell you as a consumer that thiese are grrreat ! We have bought at least 4 boxes or more over the last year! If you leave it a beverage overnight or less you well see that they desolve ! I absolutely recommend them they’re wonderful, we even drink hot coffee out of them and they’re great but they will melt as well because they are after all biodegradable corn starch! And if you’re going to ask if there’s any taste to them there is not! -
Question: Can they be reused a few times?
Answer: You can definitely use them several times. I don't know how long it takes them to decompose. I put one in a tall bud vase full of water at least 3 weeks ago. Sometimes I put them in hot water. So far there is no sign of disintegration or any other change from the day I put them in the water. -
Question: can these straws also be put in the recycle bin ? I know thwy are compostable but I don't have a composte bin
Answer: You can just put them in the trash bin and they will decompose there. They cannot be recycled (aka made into new materials), so they should be put in the trash. They will still “compost” (aka break down) there. -
Question: Where are these straws manufactured?
Answer: The box indicates, Dongyang Wanghai Trade Co, LTD, 11-1 Zhongshan Road, Dongyang, Zhejiang 322100 China. Last time I purchased them was 2019.
