Natrapel Picaridin Pump 3.4 Fl Oz

I like it … it works.

I used to use 100% DEET when going into the woods. The usual products including diluted DEET don't work very well on mosquitos or black flies. I think DEET was banned for a time because of possible health risks, but then it was decided that insect-borne diseases were an even greater risk. Maybe I'm wrong about that. But from experience, I know that spilled DEET will melt or soften some of your plastic or nylon gear. But the new Picaridin got a good report, so I picked up a bottle of Natrapel at an outdoor outfitter store in the mountains. It worked at least as well as 100% DEET. I used up the bottle, can't find picaridin products at normal outdoor stores, so I ordered more Natrapel here. I also prefer pump spray to aerosol spray cans, for the environment, for weight, and for getting all the product out of the container. I wish I could get a 6-oz. or 8-oz size spray bottle, so I almost deducted a star, but kept the review at five stars based on performance. Maybe 3.4-oz. is a TSA thing, I don't know.

I spent 5 years as a guide in the boundary waters canoe area wilderness on the northern boarder of Minnesota. Mosquito country. This stuff is effective, and unlike DEET it will not damage your gear. DEET can turn your pricey rain gear and waterproof packs/tents into trash in a hurry. This stuff won’t. picaridin Is rated as effective as DEET by the W.H.O. And the Australian military against mosquitos. Unlined DEET it is not linked to any negative health effects for long term use. If you use repellent regularly this should be the stuff.
