Question: What kind of mackerel is this? Some mackerel is very low in mercury and others very high so I’d be interested in knowing.
Answer: Hi Julianne, You're right, some Mackerels are very low in mercury and that's the kind we use - Jack or Chilean Mackerel. These are small fish that feed on free-floating algae (called phytoplankton) that is rich in Omega-3s. There is another type of Mackerel that is high in mercury called King Mackerel. This is a very large, predatory fish that can live a long time and accumulate mercury - we DO NOT USE this type of fish. King Mackerel are never harvested for use in Omega-3 supplements because they are rare, big, and low in Omega-3. Fortunately, you do not need to wonder or guess if this product has mercury...you can find the 3rd party test results for this and all other OmegaVia brand products at IFOS Consumer Reports - you'll have to search for it online. Question: Does this accompany a daily vitamin or replace it?
Answer: Hi MaryJo, This is a standalone Kids Omega 3 supplement. It does not replace your daily vitamins. Regular kids vitamins (multis) almost never have Omega-3. And if they do, it's in inadequate amounts. Question: Directions say 1 to 2 chewies. Are most kids taking 1 or 2? My son is 7 years old (size of a 9 year old).
Answer: Hi Valerie, One Chewie a day is adequate for keeping a 7 year old (or a 9 year old) from becoming Omega-3 deficient. However, what's your son's starting point? Has he been eating seafood or Omega-3 rich foods regularly? If yes, you may continue with one per day. If he has not been eating much seafood recently, then two per day for a couple of weeks should get him up to an optimal level quickly. Most kids are given one per day. We've also heard of kids pleading for more 'monkey vitamins'. :-) No harm in taking two or three per day. There's really no need for higher dosage than that. Hope that help. Question: Why does this product contain xylitol? There are studies that state it can be harmful.
Answer: Hi Habaa, Xylitol is a sweetener found naturally in many fruits, berries, cauliflower, pumpkins, oats, and mushrooms. A small amount is also produced by the human body. It is commonly found in chewing gums and toothpaste. Xylitol can also reduce bad bacteria in the gums (hence their use in dental products) and slightly improve the amount of healthy probiotics in the gut. The amount of Xylitol that you would ingest from taking this Omega 3 gummy is comparable to consuming fruits and vegetables stated above. There is no known risk for humans ingesting Xylitol at these levels. The only concern is if you ingest 50 grams or more per day, at which level, you may experience digestive distress. To ingest that much, you would have to consume dozens of boxes of this product in one sitting. Question: My son is two months to three years old. Is the pill easy to chew? Is it easy to cut half?

Just make sure you supervise him carefully until you are certain that he can chew thoroughly before swallowing. You may also wish to cut it in half or smaller pieces to help. Question: Why has the d3 and k2 been removed? the description still states it has it but this has a new nutritional panel. i have been buying because of that!
Answer: Hi Brittany, You're right, Vitamin D3 and K2 were recently (Fall 2022) removed from the formula. The formula was always intended to be a Kids Chewable Omega-3 supplement. It now has more Omega-3. However, Vitamin D3 and K2 were removed for a few reasons: 1) keeping costs low. The cost of ingredients and manufacturing have gone up dramatically and keeping the product affordable with all 3 ingredients in adequate doses was no longer possible. 2) The old formula had just enough D3 and K2 to prevent deficiency, but not enough to maintain optimal levels. And increasing the amount of D3 and K2 to optimal levels would have made the product even more expensive. We are in the process of updating product images and descriptions to match the new formula.
