Question: What is the width in the front?
Answer: Depending on how tight you pull and velcro it over your abdomen, it's between 7inches and 8 inches from top to bottom.If you're asking about the width from side to side, my medium brace snugged tight enough to firmly support my back is 16 inches at the top and 18 inches across the bottom. THere is a lot of flexibility using the two smaller straps to firm it up or down. -
Question: My waist from the widest part is 31.5... based on your experience, should I order the recommended size in Small or should I go with the Medium?

Answer: Yes, this Back Brace is flexible and easy to wear. I do not recommend this if you're short and very overweight, as this brace can become uncomfortable around the belly. -
