Plasticless 100% Compostable Colorful Big Drinking Straws for smoothie, A Fantastic Non-plastic Straws. They are made of materials such as modified corn starch and PLA. The maximum heat-resisting temperature of this plant-based straw is 150 °F. Composting is the process of breaking down organic waste by microbial digestion to create compost. Our straws meet all the requirements in the European Norm EN 13432 and/or the US Standard ASTM D6400. Both specifications require that biodegradable/compostable products completely decompose in a composting setting in a specific time frame, leaving no harmful residues behind.The proper composting environment is warm, humid, and rich in nutrients and microorganisms, so putting the straw into water or just burying it in the soil can’t quickly complete the entire degradation process. But even in a dry room, they will begin to degrade within 12 months. Please use them as soon as they arrive. |

Question: If you leave this in a cup of water, how long does it take for it to break down?
Answer: Thanks for your question. Regarding the definition of compostable, please read the following is taken from Wikipedia: At the simplest level, composting requires gathering a mix of 'Greens' and 'Browns'.[1] Greens are materials that are rich in nitrogen such as leaves, grass, and food scraps.[1] Browns are more woody materials that are rich in carbon, such as stalks, paper, and wood chips.[1] Materials are wetted to break them down into humus, a process that occurs for months.[citation needed] However, composting can also take place as a multi-step, closely monitored process with measured inputs of water, air, and carbon- and nitrogen-rich materials. The decomposition process is aided by shredding the plant matter, adding water, and ensuring proper aeration by regularly turning the mixture in a process that uses open piles or "windrows."[1][2] Fungi, earthworms, and other detritivores further break up the organic material. Aerobic bacteria and fungi manage the chemical process by converting the inputs into heat, carbon dioxide, and ammonium. Composting is an important part of waste management since food and other compostable materials make up about 20% of waste in landfills and these materials take longer to biodegrade in the landfill.[3][4] Therefore, depending on the environment, their complete degradation cycle takes at least a few months. On the other hand, the production and manufacture of biodegradable products are very risky. Biodegradable products don't have the long shelf life of plastic products, so once sales are slow, they will start to degrade and become unusable. Therefore, our products must have a shelf life of 8-12 months after the customer receives the goods. In addition, it takes 4-6 months from the procurement of raw materials to the production and packaging, and then shipping to the United States. This doesn‘t include if the port is congested or is randomly checked by the customs, it will be delayed for a long time. Therefore, we had to adjust the degradation cycle of raw materials. Therefore, please rest assured that our products can be degraded naturally, but it will take 1-2 years (even in a dry room, they will become brittle and slowly start to degrade after 12 mouths). Question: Are these straws reuseable or one-time use?
Answer: I believe they're intended for 1 time use. However, I don't see why you couldn't use one of those little straw brushes to wash it out, if you wanted to reuse it. -
