Question: How big is the diameter of the magnified area?
Answer: Not sure I understand the question. The size of the “ magnified area “ increases the further away from it that you hold the magnifiying glass. I’ve used it for close reading - 1 or 2 inches - and held it 6 inches away to view the entire NY times crossword puzzle. The diameter of the magnifying glass is 4 3/4 inches across. -

Answer: Hard to tell because of frame around it, but i would guess 1/8th thickness. Its a really nice magnifier. -
